Debugging Models in the Context of Automotive Software Development
—Different models are involved in the automotive development process. In the integration phase, AUTOSAR is often the only model description available for a controller. The models that were used to generate the behavioral code (e.g., SIMULINK®) and sometimes even the source code itself are often not available due to IP protection. The controller software is verified using simulation-based testing, which may involve different kinds of environment models and legacy components. When a test fails, developers need to find the cause of the error. Even if the source code is available, source code debugging can be difficult, because the code has often been generated and thus may be confusing. Developers then use signal plotting for known variables, but plots can be ambiguous and lead to false conclusions.
