Device Services for The Home

Abstract—An approach is presented for flexible support of devices in smart homes, meeting the needs of both home automation and telecare. Device services are introduced as a generalisation of sensor fusion, allowing ready customisation of how sensor inputs and actuator outputs are mapped to each other. Lowlevel management of devices is supported, but integrated with the high-level use of goals and policies. A range of typical device services is used to illustrate the approach.
