Fixed Versus Variable Packet Sizes in Fast Packet-Switched Networks
In this paper we investigate various performance measures of interest, when comparing fast packetswitched networks that operate with either fixed or variable packet sizes. These performance measures include queue length distribution, packet loss probability, as well as user frame loss probability. The focus of the paper is on identifyingkey parameters that influence the outcome of this comparison, and on quantdjing the potential benefits of each approach.
