: CMOS implementations of arithmetic units for One-Hot Residue encoded operands are presented. They are shown to reduce the delay-power product of conventional, fully-encoded designs by more than 85%, as exemplified by the design of a direct digital frequency synthesizer for frequency-hopped spread spectrum communication systems. The reduction is attributable to the one-hot representation, which decreases the activity factors of the signals and the number of circuit and critical path transistors.
