MARIAN Searching and Querying across Heterogeneous Federated Digital Libraries

: We explore the complex problem of providing searching services across interoperable heterogeneous federated digital library systems with rich structure and content. We discuss system issues and architectural support in MARIAN, now being extended in the context of implementing a global digital library of electronic theses and dissertations. We consider challenges faced, progress, and future plans.
