Multi-directional Demosaicing for Digital Still Cameras
— To obtain the full color image, at least three channels are required at each color location, however the image sensor obtains only the intensity of the brightness and cannot separate color information, three image sensors are required per pixel to capture the full color image. Since the image sensor is expensive, most of digital still cameras (DSCs) adopt single image sensor array with color filter array (CFA) to reduce the size and the cost. However the image obtained by single sensor array has only one color component per pixel, we need to reconstruct the missing two color components to obtain the full color image. We call this process as demosaicing or color filter interpolation. In this paper, we proposed new multi-directional demosaicing algorithm for digital still cameras (DSCs). The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm performs much better than the state-of-the-art demosaicing algorithms in term of subjective qualities.1
