We are interestedin a newclassof optimal control problemsfor DiscreteEvent Systems (DES). Weadopt theformalismof supervisorycontrol theory 10] andmodel thesystemas a nitestatemachine(FSM). Ourcontrol problemis characterized bythepresenceof uncontrollableas well as unobservableevents, thenotionof occurrenceandcontrol costsforeventsanda worst-caseobjectivefunction.We rstderiveanobserverforthepartiallyunobservableFSM,whichallowsustoconstructan approximationof theunobservabletrajectorycosts.Wethende netheperformancemeasureonthisobserverratherthanon theoriginal FSMitself.
