Optimizing Throughput with Carrier Sensing Adaptation for IEEE 802.11 Mesh Networks Based on Loss Differentiation
In high density (HD) mesh networks, packet losses can occur due to co-channel interference (asynchronous interference) or collisions (synchronous interference). In this paper, we first propose a novel method of estimating the probability of collision and interference statistically. Further, we integrate this differentiation method with physical carrier sensing adaptation in a novel centralized algorithm to improve the aggregate throughput in HD mesh network. Extensive simulations results show that the on-line algorithm approaches the optimal throughput predicted by analytical models.
