Sign: A Framework to Write Sign Languages
The problem of computer treatment of notations for writing sign languages has seen some approaches in recent years, all of them, based on hard to use bitmap standard graphical formats like bmp or gif. In this paper we present a new one based on the idea of separating what is just sign language from what is notation-specific and on the use of XML technology and the XML based language for 2D graphics SVG. As an implementation of these ideas, we present the multi-lingual and multi-notation SIGN editing and publishing framework that is actually under developement. KEYWORDS Signed languages, Accessibility, XML, SVG, Editing tools, SignWriting.
