Spam software evaluation, training, and support: fighting back to reclaim the email inbox
This paper explains two projects dealing with spam recently completed at Iowa State University (ISU). The first project was undertaken by a team composed of members of the campus IT community to test, evaluate, and recommend several desktop antispam software products. The second project was initiated to develop a website to educate users how to cope with and obtain support and training regarding spam. Spam Education Day, a festival featuring a Hormel SPAM™ luncheon and an effigial junk mail toss, was used to promote the new website and services during the university’s annual VEISHEA celebration to help rally the ISU community to fight back and reclaim the email inbox.
