— The rapid increase in the use of IEEE 802.11 Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) for a diverse range of applications, has introduced an increased complexity into WLAN design, as regards to accurate access point (AP) position assessment, which can severely impact the performance of large scale WLANs. This paper presents two approaches to WLAN design that allows the designer to describe where the WLAN is to be deployed and define the design requirements based on signal coverage and usage. Both methods automatically optimise and suggest a WLAN design that satisfies the user requirements.
