: This paper presents the architecture of WONDER, an innovative WDM optical packet network suited for a high-capacity metro environment. The network prototype is under development in the PhotonLab at Politecnico di Torino. The WONDER network architecture elaborates on the effectiveness of optical with respect to electronic devices, trying to identify an optimal mix of the two technologies. We present physical topology and node structure of the prototype.
