The project DIANE is an EU-funded project in the ACTS Program and started in September 1995. The goal of DIANE is to establish a service, which enables an user to annotate anything she perceives on the screen. These annotations are documents, which can consist of every media type, the user has at her disposal. Since annotations are documents, they themselves can be annotated and so on, thus building up a hypermedia space of documents and annotations (a document being no annotation to anything).
