Distributed Linear Hashing and Parallel Projection in Main Memory Databases
This paper extends the conceptsof the distributed linear hashedmain memory file system with the objective of supportinghigher level parallel dambaseoperations. The basicdistributed linear hashingtechniqueprovides a high speedhashbaseddynamic file systemon a NUMA atchitecturemulti-processorsystem.Distributed linear hashing hasbeen extendedto include the ability to perform high speedparallel scansof the hashed file. The fast scan featureprovides load balancing to compensatefor uneven distributions of records and uneven processing speed amongdifferent processors.Theseextensionsareusedto implement a parallel projection capability. The performanceof distributed linear hashing and parallel projection is investigated.
