A Functional Programming Framework of Heterogeneous Model of Computation for System Design
System-on-Chip (SOC) and other complex distributed hardware/software systems contain heterogeneous components such as DSPs, micro-controllers, application specific logic etc., which necessitate frameworks capable of expressing heterogeneous models of computation (MoC) for modeling their functionalities. This is due to the fact that distinct subcomponent behaviors are best modeled in different models of computation (MoC) because the very nature of computation in these differs significantly from one another. Frameworks such as Ptolemy II [11] provide Java based actor oriented modeling methodology for modeling such heterogeneous systems. Recently several researchers have been enhancing C++ based libraries such as SystemC for capturing heterogeneity in such models.
