- The rising popularity of Mobile Computing creates new methods for accessing Web content. At the same time Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feed is another new trend of constantly updating Web documents that are available on the Internet. The questions arises how to most efficiently access such new type of Web content from mobile devices. This study compares the performance of the .NET Compact Framework when accessing RSS from a direct HTTP request and through a Web Service based approach. Our results show that processing requirements need to be considered into the decision which model is appropriate as the Web Service architecture places much higher processing requirements on an actual remote PC thus alleviating processing times on the mobile device.
