An Embedded Healthcare System for Blood Glucose Monitoring in a Body Area Network
This paper presents a Java service platform and hardware design for a handheld healthcare system that enables remote health monitoring using CDMA public wireless networks. Specially, the system aims to monitor diabetic patients' state. For this purpose, we design the blood glucose meters and Wireless Interface module. The communication between sensors and the PDA forms a BAN (Body Area Network). The aggregated information on biosignals is collected by the PDA and transferred to the remote medical center (RMC) through the CDMA public wireless networks. We design and develop a BAN, service protocol, and run the application software to demonstrate its effectiveness of remote monitoring in the mobile environment.
