This paper presents an overviewof the current field of entertainmentrobotics basedon experiencesas spectator during the RoboCup1999and building an experimental entertainment robot based on the LEGOplatform with digital colorcameraandvariousother sensors. RoboCatis a robot cat prototypethat showscat-like behaviourin the real-life environmentof typical households.Forbehavioural modelling,the Hamsterdamarchitecture waschosen.While showing that Blumberg's Hamsterdamoffers a new programmingparadigmto designintelligent entertainment robots, this paperalso aimsto decidewhetheror not truly intelligententertainmentrobotsare as of yet a myth.
