Grounded Models as a Basis for Intuitive Reasoning
Groundedmodels(Siena2001b)differ fromaxiomatictheories in establishingexplicit connectionsbetweenlanguage andreality that are learnedthroughlanguagegames(Wittgenstein 1953).Thispaperdescribeshowgroundedmodelsare constructedbyautonomousagentsas a side effect of their activity playingdifferent typesof languagegames(Steels 1999),andexplainshowtheycanbe usedfor intuitive reasoning. It proposesa particularlanguagegamewhichcanbe usedforsimulatingthegenerationof logicalcategories(such as negation, conjunction, disjunction, implicationor equivalence), anddescribessomeexperimentsin whicha couple of visuallygroundedagentsconstructa groundedmodelthat canbeusedfor spatialreasoning.
