This paper presents major aspects of the customisation and personalisation of news. The main focus lies on delivering information via multiple channels, going beyond traditional web to mobile devices. It argues that the quality and tailoring of information provide added value to the user. A prototypical system is described, which allows for customisation and personalisation of RSS-based news and access by different devices including PDAs, cellular phones, tablet PCs etc. It has been found that although XML-based content allows for flexible and platform-independant processing, the integration into existing systems is a complex and time-consuming task.
