Fundamental Considerations of Competence Assessment for Validation
This paper deals with the very fundamentalsof a socalled TURIN(]test methodologyfor expert system validation which wasproposedby the first author (cf. (Knauf,Gonzalez, aatd Philippow1997), e.g.). First, wesurveyseveral conceptsof verification and validation. Ourfavoured concepts axe lucidly characterized by the wordsthat verification guarantees to build the system right whereasvalidation deals with building the right system. Next, wecritically inspect the thought-experiment called the TtmINOtest. It turns out that, while this approachmaynot be sufficient to reveal a system'sintelligence, it providesa suitable methodological backgroundto certify a system'svalidity. TILe principles of our validation approachare surveyed.
