From MiniMax to Manhattan
The thinking process for playing chess by computer is significantly different from that used by humans. Although computer hardware and software have evolved considerably, computers still have difficulties to understand the more elaborate chess concepts. In this paper we look at the technology behind today’s chess programs, its current status and how it has developed. Finally, we explore some directions for the future.
