This paper describes the development of a traffic-modeling tool as an Arena template and two applications of it: one to evaluate alternative designs for the road network on the premises of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and one to assess the effects of traffic signaling on a junction. The tool uses discrete event simulation, very suited for modeling traffic in areas where there are a lot of interactions other than carfollowing. Generation of the O/D matrix was done automatically by a custom-made application.
