—In this paper the GPC and NGPC model predictive control techniques are applied to a typical plant and compared in terms of computational efficiency. The system identification and predictive control computational performance are examined. The future control inputs using GPC can be found by the direct analysis and thus reducing the computational time when compared with NGPC scheme with variable weight factor. The NGPC shows the true dynamics of the plant. The weight factor of the GPC scheme is explored in the implementation of the scheme. The results show the GPC with variable weight factor is on par with NGPC.
