This paper presents methods for independently modifying the time and pitch scale of acoustic signals, with an emphasis on speech signals. The algorithms developed here use parametric (sinusoidal) modelling techniques introduced by other authors, but new perspectives on the role of vocal tract decomposition and maintaining phase relationships between sinusoidal tracks are derived that achieve improved output quality with decreased computational load. Simulation results are provided to illustrate performance, and the algorithms developed here has been demonstrated capable of implementation on simple DSP hardware.
