Reverse-engineering of XML Schemas: A Survey
As approaches to conceptual modeling of XML data become more popular, a need arises to reverse-engineer existing schemas to the conceptual models. They make the management of XML schemas easier as well as provide means for accomplishing integration of various XML data sources. Some methods for reverse-engineering of XML schemas have been proposed and in this paper, they are compared using various criteria such as used XML schema languages, level of user involvement, number of XML schemas that can be covered by the conceptual model or support for consecutive XML schema evolution. They are also evaluated according to their potential to be used as parts of a system for management, evolution and integration of XML as a whole.
