Numberplate detection using double segmentation

Numberplate detection plays an important role in public transportation systems. Before numberplate detection can be performed, the region of interest that contains the numberplate needs to be determined. This paper presents a novel approach to detecting numberplates in a video sequence by double segmentation. The first segmentation determines the approximate location of the number plate, and then the second segmentation uses edge detection and a projection process to determine the exact location of the numberplate.
