Deriving requirements and architecture in concert implies the joint elicitation and specification of the problem and the structure of the solution. In this paper we argue that such an integrated process should be fundamentally based on experience. We sketch an approach developed in the context of the EMPRESS project that shows how different kinds of experiencebased artifacts, such as checklists, patterns, and rationale, can beneficially be applied.
