Analog and Hybrid Computation Approaches for Static Power Flow
Analog and hybrid computation methods are areas of continued interest, particularly in specific applications where traditional digital computation techniques cannot achieve the desired performance. One such example and the focus of this paper is steady state power flow analysis of AC power systems. Traditional iterative methods, such as NewtonRaphson, are time and computationally intensive. Significant speed and performance increases can be achieved through pure analog or hybrid (analog and digital) computation approaches. This paper presents a static mathematical model of an AC power system and methods of implementation for both an analog and a hybrid computation scheme. Increased computational performance is achieved through elimination of matrix inversion and iteration by utilizing the inherent parallelism of analog computation. PSpice simulation results verify the power system models and insight is provided on implementation for large scale systems.
