Abstract— Presteering of broadband antenna arrays is required to compensate the effect of misalignment between the look direction and the array geometry and is achieved by inserting a steering delay in front of each antenna element. As a separate set of delays is required for every direction where the array needs to be steered, this scheme not only is cumbersome and expensive but also causes loss of performance if precisely correct delays with infinite precision are not used. This paper presents a scheme which does not require steering delays to compensate the effect of misalignment between the look direction and the array geometry and uses the data generated by the proposed method to perform optimal beamforming to show the effectiveness of the method in generating broadband presteering signals without using steering delays.
