The focus of this paper is on student learning theory. Use is made of an "analytic discovery tool" called Quantitative CyberQuest (QCQ) to help conceptualize the many goals of learning (e.g., increasing problem solving skills); the external forces that may prevail (e.g., learning without formal instruction); the educational strategies that may be undertaken (e.g., use of simulations); and the numerous relationships between all of these. In all, 136 variables and 692 bivariate relations were identified, mainly from the literature but also from the authors' own experiences. The development of the conceptual model enables educators to think through the logical connections between strategies and learning goals under different external conditions.
