WASA: An Intelligent Agent for Web-Based Self-Assessment
WASA is an intelligent self-assessment agent of WADIES, a web-based learning environment which adapts its material to reflect the needs of the individual learner, whether it is for studying or for testing. WASA offers a rich interaction environment where the students are encouraged to actively construct their own knowledge through self-assessment exercises. WASA's novelty lies on its ability to offer a number of alternative teaching strategies for a given task in respect of a teaching style chosen by the teacher. The presence of alternative teaching strategies means that the student is active, is encouraged to use background knowledge and consider a number of alternative perspectives for the concept under consideration. An authoring agent called AWAIT supports the designing of different teaching strategies as well as the developing of new teaching material.
