Response Time Properties of Some Asynchronous Circuits

Wediscuss response timeproperties of linear arrays and tree-like arrays of cells with various handshake communication behaviours. The response times of a networkare the delays between requests and succeeding acknowledgments for theJirst cell. We derive simpleformulasfor the worstcase responsetime and amortizedresponsetimeofsuch networks using a general Variable-delaymodel, where delays may vary between a lower and upper bound. Thepmperties are independent of anyparticular implementationof the cells of the network.
