We propose a set of sketch-based interaction techniques for efficient retrieval of multimedia related to locations. The user makes a simple sketch on a map to interact with it, instead of using the existing techniques based on clicking, dragging and rotating the mouse wheel. The interface analyzes and interprets these sketches, and displays results accordingly. We demonstrate how the proposed techniques can be expanded to create systems that retrieve locationbased multimedia such as maps, images, GPS traces and dynamically rendered travel video. The results of user studies demonstrate that the proposed interaction techniques are intuitive and easy to learn. They also speed up retrieval by approximately 10 to 33%.
